What does the Skills Guarantee do?

The Skills Guarantee is a TestOut program that assists students in getting a job in Information Technology.

A student who holds a Skills Guarantee certificate is able to tell an employer that he or she possess the skills that were certified under the Pro certification and that TestOut will pay the employer $500 (if the job is part-time) or $1,000 (if the job is full-time)* if the employer finds that the student does not possess the certified skills after hiring them.

*If you’re not located in the United States, the payment is the US equivalent.

Which skills are guaranteed?

The skills that TestOut guarantees are the exam objectives of the Pro certification as taught in the TestOut Pro course and assessed in the associated Pro certification exam. The Skills Guarantee does not guarantee soft skills or additional IT skills not listed in the exam objectives.

How do I use the Skills Guarantee?

The Skills Guarantee is an added credential that a student can use to show employers when applying and interviewing for jobs. Instructors and Career Services individuals can also showcase the Skills Guarantee to employers. We've created a list of student tips and instructions for using the Skills Guarantee.

What does the Skills Guarantee certificate look like? Can I show it to employers and coworkers?

How long will it be valid with employers?

Upon hiring an individual who holds the TestOut Skills Guarantee, the employer will have up to 90 days to evaluate the individual’s skills. If the employer finds that the individual does not possess the skills within the 90-day timeframe, they may contact TestOut directly to request the payment. Why are you offering the Skills Guarantee?

Employers want assurances when making hiring decisions, and the Skills Guarantee is more than a credential or qualification. TestOut stands behind its training and certifications. Most importantly, TestOut stands behind the individual student. The end goal of the Skills Guarantee is to help the individual get a job in IT.

Why does the Skills Guarantee require an instructor approval to qualify for it?

TestOut stands behind its training and Pro certifications 100 percent. The reasons we ask for instructor approval is because we want to give instructor’s the ability to use the Skills Guarantee as a motivator for their students to do well in the class. This includes that students have completed assignments and passed the class. In minute cases, a student could do poorly on the class and then take a practice exam multiple times and by chance pass the Pro certification. Though this person has proved their skills, TestOut asks for an approval from the instructor that this person did perform well in the class.

Does the Skills Guarantee cost anything?

No. The Skills Guarantee is a free offering to all TestOut educational institutions that are current TestOut customers.

How do I access the Skills Guarantee?

The Skills Guarantee certificate and the instructor approval process is available in LabSim. To enable this feature, a LabSim administrator needs to turn it on. View a tutorial on using the Skills Guarantee in LabSim.

Who qualifies for the Skills Guarantee?

The Skills Guarantee is only offered to the educational institutions that are current TestOut customers. TestOut Continuing Education customers, such as corporate, IT professional, or self-study individuals, do not qualify at this time.

How do employers receive a Skills Guarantee payment from TestOut?

Which TestOut Pro certifications can I use the Skills Guarantee with?

You can qualify for the TestOut Skills Guarantee using any certification, except Desktop Pro. These Pro certifications qualify for the Skills Guarantee:

 

What if I earn multiple Pro certifications during the Skills Guarantee offered timeframe?

If you’ve earned a second or third Pro certification, just have your instructor approve the Skills Guarantee like the first time, and LabSim will auto generate a new Skills Guarantee certificate for you to download from your Certifications tab.

Can I order a hard copy Skills Guarantee certificate?

At this time, no. You can print your Skills Guarantee PDF certificate to show as a hard copy.
